1804 USA Ohio state legislature passed first laws restricting movement of free blacks.
1936 Ethiopia The town of Degehaburr, Ethiopia, was bombed by the Italians.
1943 USA Death of African-American educator and scientist George Washington Carver in Tuskegee, Alabama.
1985 Israel Israeli government end of Operation Moses, a covert operation to relocate Ethiopian Israelites (Beta Israel) from refugee camps in Sudan to Israel, after the operation was revealed in the press.
